Why is rigorous testing of a vision system important

Just because your application works well inspecting your parts on your production line today doesn’t guarantee that it will work well in the future.
For example, when inspecting labels in a packaging plant, package and container materials, labeling equipment, printing methods, and ambient lighting conditions can vary considerably over time. In this case, as you evaluate your vision system be sure to test the system on a large sample of good, marginal, and poor quality labels to see how the system performs under variable real-world conditions. Character positions can shift from label to label so it’s also a good idea to enlarge the region of interest around the character string. This will help you determine how reliably the vision system’s reading and verification tools operate within a larger search region.
You can apply this same logic to any production scenario where conditions and equipment performance are likely to change over time.
